The lifeblood of companies in today's economy is data. And while companies increase their value and potential revenue gain as they collect data, they are at the same time increasing their exposure to potential risks associated with using that data. Meanwhile, as the demand for data has increased, so has the number of rules governing its use. Psoom provides technology solutions that enable companies to maximize the value of their data assets while minimizing the associated risks of data usage.
Psoom addresses data usage as a function of ROI, policy, compliance, and rules. We define this space as the data asset management (DAM) market. The market is growing through an expanding number of complex data driven business relationships. With this we are seeing increasing regulation, and growing publicity associated with policy blunders. Companies that collect and use data must now comply with privacy policies, terms of use agreements, federal, state, and international regulations, and third party data sharing agreements. Over 50 bills have been introduced in Congress this year that will limit the use of data.
Psoom, Inc. (Psoom) is the currently the only company providing solutions to directly address the Data Asset Management market. Existing solutions that take in, store, or manage data do not bind data with the rules that define its proper use. Many solutions address data use issues with new business processes or security software. Each solution has its shortfall. Business processes that lack automation are prone to abuse or misuse. Conversely, over-automated control processes (particularly those which users cannot map back to business drivers, contractual or legal obligations) invite circumvention. This holds true for processes that are implemented or enforced using traditional security software, data storage and collection solutions that tend to "patch" the issue with access codes that are difficult to map back to contractual or legal obligations.
Organizations tend to use automated or other types of controls
as a means to deny access to data assets. Of course, businesses
must deny inappropriate use of data. However, they must also ensure
that data be available to all processes and people who can legitimately
use it. This is the sweet spot for Psoom's first product releases:
Psoom ensures the compliant use of data through facilitation rather
than through denial.
